What is it?
How does it work
Hypnosis is…
A natural state that we each experience daily. When we use this natural state deliberately and intentionally, we call it hypnosis.
A combination of deep relaxation and focus. In this way It’s VERY similar to meditation with a specific goal in mind.
The conscious mind acts as a “gatekeeper”. It continually fact-checks and judges new information based on your past experiences and core beliefs. Entering a hypnotic state temporarily relaxes this critical faculty.
Once the filtering system of the conscious mind relaxes, you stop critically evaluating every thought, which allows you to consider new perspectives, shift ingrained habits, and update old thought loops without conscious resistance.
You are awake.
You remain in control.
It feels natural.
It’s very similar to a guided meditation.
Hypnosis is NOT…
Mind Control: You cannot be forced to do or say anything against your will or your moral code. If a suggestion violates your boundaries, your mind will reject it.
Unconsciousness: You are awake, aware, and in total control. You can open your eyes, speak, or completely stop the session at any moment.
Magic or Sleep: It is not a magical trick that bypasses free will, nor is it a state of sleep. Brain scans show it is an active, concentrated state rather than a resting one.
What To Expect
Before hypnosis, we’ll meet and spend some time talking.
I’ll answer your questions and help you determine if hypnosis is right for you. I’ll also help you understand what hypnosis is, how and why it works, as well as what you can expect on your hypnosis journey.
This part of the process is similar to a consultation. This usually takes about 30 minutes, and can be done over the phone, in-person. or virtually.
You’ve chosen to get hypnotized for a reason. As we talk, I get a sense for what you are seeking and together we set goals for your hypnosis journey.
Perhaps you need help recovering from burn out. Perhaps you recognize you have limiting beliefs about yourself. Maybe you are struggling to make peace with a medical diagnosis. Or maybe you’d simply like to know and understand yourself better. All of these things can be explored through hypnosis. Together we will clarify what is most important to you, and what success with hypnosis would look like and feel like to you.
When we set intentions, we create clear direction while remaining open to whatever unfolds.
Once we have talked, set intentions, and have a clear idea of what you hope to achieve, we’ll move into a deeply relaxed, focused hypnotic state using gentle guidance and visualization. This is VERY similar to a guided meditation.
Hypnosis is a journey, not a destination.
Before we begin, we’ll talk about what you’re hoping to change and what “success” would actually look and feel like to you. That becomes our compass for the journey ahead.
You may reach your destination in one session. You may discover that there is more you’d like to explore. Either way, you decide when your journey is complete.
Once you are comfortably in a hypnotic state, I will use the information you shared during your consultation to guide the session. No two experiences are exactly alike because they are shaped by your unique goals, memories, and inner wisdom.
For example, if you’re struggling with anxiety, we might gently explore the situations that trigger those feelings, discover what your subconscious has been trying to protect you from, and help it develop a new, healthier response.
If you’re working to change a habit, we may uncover the need that habit has been fulfilling, then create new patterns that support the life you want instead.
If your goal is confidence, we may reconnect you with memories of strength and success, amplify those feelings, and mentally rehearse future situations so your mind and body begin responding with greater confidence.
If you’re feeling burned out or overwhelmed, the session may focus on helping your nervous system rest, release accumulated stress, and reconnect with a sense of balance and renewal.
Throughout the process, I act as your guide. I ask questions, offer suggestions, and help you explore your own inner landscape, while your subconscious provides the insights, memories, symbols, and solutions that are uniquely meaningful to you.
One of the most valuable parts of the session happens after hypnosis.
We’ll take time to talk about your experience, explore any symbolism or insights that emerged, and discuss how those discoveries might relate to your life today.
The goal isn’t simply to have an interesting experience—it’s to carry meaningful understanding back into your everyday life.
During hypnosis, we gently begin moving emotions, beliefs, and patterns in the direction you’d like to go. Integration happens between sessions and is the process of allowing those changes to settle into your everyday life.
You may notice new thoughts, emotions, memories, or perspectives emerging in the days and weeks that follow. Sometimes things feel lighter. Sometimes something unexpected surfaces. Sometimes you simply notice that you respond to an old situation in a completely different way.
That’s integration.
You don’t have to force it. You don’t have to figure everything out. You simply pay attention to what is changing and allow yourself to experience it.
Why I do this work

I became a hypnotist by accident….It’s a rather winding tale. Here are the cliff notes.
For sixteen years I was a middle school art teacher. I loved my job. It broke my heart to leave—but it broke my spirit to stay.
During those years, life had a way of asking me difficult questions. As I searched for answers, I found myself exploring meditation, tarot, dreams, symbolism, and eventually hypnosis. Each became another way of understanding myself and the stories we tell ourselves about who we are.
Through that journey, I realized how many of my own beliefs no longer served me—especially the belief that being a good teacher, a good parent, partner, and person meant always putting myself last. Learning to care for myself with the same compassion I offer others has changed the direction of my life.
Eventually, I realized that what I loved most about teaching had never been grading papers or writing lesson plans. It was creating a space where people felt safe enough to explore, grow, and discover something new about themselves.
Today, I do that in a different way. Through hypnosis, I have the privilege of guiding people as they explore their own stories and learn to listen to the wisdom that’s already within them.
Commonly Asked Questions
That’s more common than you might think—and it doesn’t mean hypnosis won’t work for you.
While some people experience vivid mental images during hypnosis, others connect through feelings, thoughts, memories, sensations, emotions, or simply a deep knowing. There is no single “correct” way to experience your subconscious.
The goal isn’t to create a movie in your mind—it’s to connect with your inner experience in whatever form it naturally unfolds. You simply need a willingness to be curious about whatever arises.
The answer is different for everyone.
Most people remember nearly every detail of their hypnosis session, while others remember only bits and pieces. Occasionally, someone remembers nothing at all. Every experience is unique, and the amount you remember is not a measure of how successful your session was. Profound insights and meaningful transformation can occur whether you remember every moment or very little of the experience.
A state of hypnosis is simply a focused state of relaxation which alters brain wave activity. We all experience this daily, which would suggest everyone can be hypnotized.
Keep in mind that hypnosis is NOT something that is done to you—it’s a natural state that you ALLOW. All hypnosis is self-hypnosis.
Entering a hypnotic state and maintaining it is a skill that is built over time. We will work together to discover what conditions help you relax, focus, and enter a hypnotic state. From there you will discover what hypnosis feels like for you, and how to maintain your hypnotic state.
While it may take you some time to figure out how to enter, maintain, and utilize a hypnotic state, I have every confidence that everyone can learn.
No. Hypnosis is not a substitute for medical care, psychological treatment, or advice from a licensed healthcare professional.
Hypnosis can be a valuable complementary tool for self-discovery, relaxation, personal growth, and exploring patterns, beliefs, and experiences that may be influencing your life. However, it should not be used as a replacement for appropriate medical or mental health care.
If you’re currently under the care of a physician, therapist, or other healthcare provider, I encourage you to continue following their recommendations. Hypnosis can often work alongside other forms of care as part of a well-rounded approach to your overall well-being.
My role is to guide you through a safe and supportive hypnosis experience—not to diagnose, treat, or cure medical or psychological conditions.
There isn’t a one-size-fits-all answer.
Life has a way of unfolding in chapters. Sometimes one session is exactly what’s needed for the chapter you’re in. Other times, a new season of life brings new questions worth exploring. Some choose to return frequently because they have new questions, wish to explore a different aspect of their lives, or simply want to continue their journey of self-discovery.
Rather than following a predetermined plan, I believe each session should stand on its own. My goal isn’t to keep you coming back—it’s to help you have a meaningful experience that gives you the clarity, understanding, or healing you’re seeking.
If, after your session, you feel there’s more you’d like to explore, you’re always welcome to schedule another appointment. But there is never any expectation or pressure to do so.
